listenpublic.com and publicpublicrecord.com republish records that governments publish, such as agendas, minutes, staff reports, letters, and recordings, and writes about them. Those records name people: officials, staff, applicants, and members of the public who spoke at a meeting or wrote to a public body. This page says what we will correct, what we will remove, and how to ask. You do not need an account to use it.
We correct what we write
Summaries, abstracts, feed paragraphs, the dates and places of meetings, and the people, places, and topics we say a record mentions are ours. When one of them is wrong because it misstates the record, attributes a statement to the wrong person or body, or misses something the record says, we fix it. The source record governs: we correct our description to match it.
Much of what we write is produced by machine-learning models. When you tell us a model wrote something untrue about a real person, we check it against the record and correct or remove what the record does not support.
We do not change the records themselves
A record we reproduce is what the government published. We do not edit its text, even where it contains a mistake; a correction to a record belongs with the body that published it. We can tell you where to send it.
We remove information when the law or someone's safety requires it
Some laws give a person the right to have a home address or other personal information removed from what is published online, such as New Jersey's Daniel's Law (N.J.S.A. 56:8-166.1) for judges, prosecutors, law enforcement officers, and their households, and similar laws in other states. When we receive a valid request under such a law that identifies the page and the information, we remove or obscure that information within the period the law sets.
Apart from any law, we will consider a request to remove or obscure information where its presence on our service creates a risk to someone's safety.
How to ask
Email contact@listenpublic.com with:
- A link to the page.
- What is wrong, or what information you want removed.
- What it should say instead, if it is a correction.
- For a removal under a law, which law, and that you are a person it covers or are authorized to act for one.
We review requests in the order we receive them. We may decline a request that does not identify a specific page and specific information, that duplicates one we have already answered, or that is submitted in bulk or by automated means, except where the law requires us to act on it.
Questions about this policy go to contact@listenpublic.com. Our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy cover the rest of how the service works.
